There are many museums located in downtown Sacramento within a fairly short walk from the hotels and Convention Center if you would like to get out for a walk and see some local culture. Below are the different options in order of closest to the Convention Center, hours of operation, and other pertinent information.
10th and L Streets. Directly across the street from the Hyatt and Convention Center. Weekend hours 9-5, Weekday 8-5. Free admission. See County exhibits, old Governor’s’ office, Senate Chambers, Assembly Chambers, etc. Must go through metal detector. 10th and O Streets. 10-5pm Tues-Sat, 12-5 Sundays. Closed Mondays. $9 for adult. Signature Exhibits include California Indians, Remarkable Women, Hall of Fame, Constitution Wall, Japanese Americans During WWII, and Sesquicentennial Quilt. californiamuseum.org

8th and N Streets. Guided tours only Wednesday through Sunday at the top of the hour starting at 10am, last tour at 4pm. $5 for adults; $3 for youth. Free to stroll Victorian gardens around mansion, and Visitor Center. stanfordmansion.org
15th and H Streets. 10-5pm, Wednesday through Sunday. $5 for adults, $3 for youth. Chief Justice Warren and President Reagan both lived in the mansion while they were governor. parks.ca.gov
Begins at 2nd and K Streets. Stroll through Old Sacramento with various museums, historic buildings, statues, various shopping, restaurants, and comedy clubs. Museums include the California State Railroad Museum, Sacramento History Museum, Wells Fargo History Museum, Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum, California Military Museum, and the Huntington and Hopkins Hardware. The Delta King is an old river paddle boat that is now a restaurant open for lunch and dinners. Docents in period costume help bring the history to life. 27th and L Street. 10-5pm daily. $7 for adults, $5 for youth. Captures the pioneer spirit of families arriving in wagon trains at the dawn of the California Gold Rush. John Sutter built the Fort and his agricultural empire, was critical in the rescue of the tragic Donner Party and served as a diplomat with the Mexican government until it all came crashing down in 1848. suttersfort.org
2200 Front Street (roughly 2nd and V Streets, south of Old Sacramento along the river). 10-6pm daily. $8 adults, $4 students. Visiting the California Automobile museum is a unique and interesting experience – and that is in large part due to the expansive collection of over 150 vehicles on display. Walking through the exhibits will take visitors past cars from 1885 and all the way through to 2011. It is walk through the history of cars and California culture! calautomuseum.org
3901 Land Park. 9-4pm Thursday through Sunday (weather permitting). $5.50 admission. Well known fairtales come to life in a park. Ride in Cinderella’s carriage, visit the three Billy Goats Gruff, slide down from Owl’s tree house, walk a crooked mile and visit Mary’s little lambs are all possible at Fairytale Town. Kids up to age 10 should all enjoy exploring Fairytale Town and playing in their favorite stories. fairytaletown.org

3930 Land Park (across the street from Fairytale Town). 9-4pm daily. $7.25 - $11.25 (February 1st, admission is half priced). Come visit the zoo and see many different animals from zebras to lions to chimpanzees, the Sacramento Zoo offers a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians for visitors to view. saczoo.org

Located just down the street from the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield. Free - $25, 21 and over only for most tours ($10 for 13-20 for one tour). Budweiser offers a variety of tours daily from 10-4pm, most for adults 21 and over only. The “Flights of Fairfield” includes one-on-one session with a brewing expert where you learn about beer styles, quality ingredients, and proper pouring and brewmaster approved tasting techniques, and of course food and beer pairings and a tour includes a souvenir glass ($10, first come, first served basis for groups of 8 max). “Beermaster Tour” includes a behind the scenes look at brewing of Budweiser, including a sample directly from a Finishing Tank.
